Pink Dress to Skirt

A few months ago I purchased a pink dress from one of the local vintage stores for about $30. It was a nice dress, but didn't fit right up top. I fell in love with the design, so I didn't want to sell it back, give it away, or scrap it. So, I turned it into a skirt, which turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be, save for the zipper. But, it fits perfectly, so I'm happy.

Originally, it was an ill fitting dress from a local vintage store.

The first thing I did was take out the zipper. It came out pretty easily, though I accidently tore a little bit of the fabric. I'll have to watch for that kind of thing in the future.

I lined up the two sides, pinned it, and carefully cut off most of the bodice.

Next, I ironed down the few inches of bodice that I left on the dress, pinned it, and sewed it into a waistband, then ironned it down. I put the zipper back in, which was tricky.

Last thing I had to do was hem it up, because it was about four inches too long. Then, voila! A skirt.
